American hamburgers

The whole family’s favourite: burgers with home-made ketchup

Next time you make burgers, get in an extra large vine of Looye JOYN tomatoes. They are easy to slice thinly for a fresh, healthy garnish.

INGREDIENTS (makes 4 burgers)

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 Looye JOYN tomatoes
  • 2 handfuls iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices bacon
  • A few pickle slices
  • 2 red onions
  • 400 g. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • Breadcrumbs
  • ½ tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • Honeytomato Ketchup

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Dice half of the red onion and cut the rest into rings. Slice the tomatoes as well as the pickle. Fry the bacon in a frying pan and drain on a paper towel.
  • Combine the hamburger and egg in a mixing bowl and add enough bread crumbs to form nice firm burgers. Add the pepper, salt, diced onion and Worcestershire sauce. Divide the hamburger mixture into four portions and shape them into nice patties a little larger in diameter than the buns since the burgers will shrink a bit during frying.
  • Fry the burgers in a frying pan for around 8-10 minutes (depending on their thickness). Slice the buns open (toast them briefly if you want) and top them with the lettuce, tomato slices and then the hamburger. Then place a slice of cheddar cheese on top so that it melts a little. Then top with the bacon slices, red onion rings and a few pickle slices.
  • Finish with Honeytomato Ketchup, cover with the top of the bun, and dig in!
