Yesterday, today and tomorrow

We’ve been passionate about growing the best tasting tomatoes ever since we started. And that takes more than just special tomato varieties and technical innovations. To grow the tastiest tomatoes in the world, you need a unique way of working – with an eye for detail, an eye for each other and an eye for nature. On this page you’ll discover what we’ve been doing for decades, what we do now and what we’ll continue to do in the future.

The people behind our tomatoes

Watch and listen to the people at Looye Kwekers. The people who work tirelessly every day to grow the best looking tomatoes with the best flavour.

From yesterday to today

The story of our delicious tomatoes dates back to 1946 when Jacobus Looije started growing vegetables on a small strip of land in the Dutch Westland area. Since then, Looye Kwekers has gone on to become one of the best known and best loved tomato nurseries in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

Jacobus Looije starts a vegetable farm

Jacobus Looije starts his own vegetable farm in the Westland area, the place he was born and raised. Jacobus is the father of the current owner of Looye Kwekers, Jos Looije.

The name says it all

The showstoppers on our menu are of course our Honeytomatoes and Looye Joyn tomatoes. Our Honeytomato is the most flavoursome tomato you can buy today. The juicy Looye Joyn tomato is the ideal ingredient for cooking up delicious dishes, thanks to its firm structure and perfect balance between sweet and acidic.

The elite of our greenhouse harvests earn the right to be called Honeytomatoes or Looye Joyn tomatoes. The tomatoes that just miss out on this accolade are marketed under a different label. So you’ll find some of our tomatoes in supermarkets under the Dulcita and Cortez brand names.
